Alberta Raistrick b1874 Harry Marchbank Hainsworth
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 14:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking to trace the history of Alberta Raistrick (b1874 Bradford) and daughter of Matthew Henry Raistrick and Louisa A Senior.  I can see Alberta in the 1881 and 1901 censuses still living with parents.  I have no clear link to what happened next.

There is, however, a suggestion she may have emigrated to Canada.

There is an Alberta marriage in 1904 probably to Harry Marchbank Hainsworth.

There are a lot of passenger and Border crossing references (including the US Canada and Australia) for a Harry Hainsworth also some for a Mrs H M Hainsworth and one Alberta Hainsworth from Durban to the UK.  The latter is highly suggestive though these passenger lists offer little in the way of corroboration.

Does anyone have any data that would link Alberta 1874 to the Harry M Hainsworth marriage that would avoid me ordering the marriage certificate to check her parents?

Paul

Hello There........

When Alberta and Harry M Hainsworth, returned to England , From South Africa , April 30th 1934 aboard The Warwick Castle, they gave the address I'del Old Road , Stanningley, near Leeds, as the address they were staying at......Do's that address mean anything to you ?

There is a H M Hainsworth , on a Medal Roll , for The Cape Government Railway ,South Africa.
Service Date 1899-1902. This would explain why Harry is missing from 1901 census.

I am not sure if this is any help really.

JeannieR

PS I have a feeling, that the address gven was Idle Old Road, Stanningley

My grandmother was Alberta Reistrich. She married my grandfather Harry Marchbank Hainsworth (who worked on the railways in the UK). They emigrated to South Africa where they had 2 sons Alfred Henry (my father) and Jack.
In 1934 my grandparents and my parents returned to the UK on holiday. Their family lived in the Bradford area.Alberta and Harry both died in Cape town.
Their family are all still in South africa. I have a daughter in the UK.

Hi Hilaryann,

Welcome to RootsChat.

Paul hasn't been on the site since 19 Feb 2011 so he may not see your post. If he still has the same email address as when he registered with RC he will receive an email telling him about your post.

If you haven't got a copy of the Parish Marriage Record  I could email you a copy but you will have to put another couple of posts on the site before you can send me a PM (Personal Message) with your email address.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks.

Just catching up on emails and have now seen the post.

Thanks HilaryAnn.  My Grandfather Joseph Rhodes married a Raistrick.  They lived in Idle West Yorkshire, near Bradford.  My Grandfather moved to Lancashire for work.  Prior to his generation virtually all of the Raistricks and Rhodes lived around Idle occasionally marrying someone from distant parts (like about 10 miles).

Yes I am quie sure it is my grandmother Alberta Raistrick you were looking for. My great grandfather was an engine driver and my grandfather was a railway guard. I have since found out that my grandfather came to South Africa during the anglo boer war to help transport the British troops. We believe he was already engaged to Alberta and loved South Africa so much that when he returned to UK they married and returned to South Africa to settle.
I do not know much about my grandmothers family, the Raistricks or the Seniors.
I shall try to get more information.

Thanks.  The war service also explains the gap between the banns and the marriage.  I do not have much Hainsworth material but do have plenty about Raistrick's if you are interested.
