I found the following interesting snippet while researching an Elaine Alice Lambert in my tree:

LAMBERT - Will Elaine Alice Lambert formerly living at 52 Brook Street Colchester Essex and last heard of in Colchester in 1945, or any person having knowledge of her present whereabouts communicate with Page, Ward and Daykin solicitors, 70 High Street, Colchester, Essex.

A handwritten note underneath says N.W 19/11/1961

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could follow this up? I've been unable to find a marriage or death record for Elaine, all I have is that she was born in 1900 in Essex.

I suppose you could see if the solicitors are still a going concern - they might have changed their name - and have archives.

I wonder what NW means?

Could the "N.W 19/11/1961" refer to the name and date of newspaper that advertisement appeared? (I always put name and date of paper when I clip things out)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for the replies.

No luck tracking down the solictor firm yet, but still trying.

Also, nothing turning up on N.W that I can find.  ???
