Rook Family - Harbledown, Ham & Canterbury
« on: Wednesday 05 January 11 17:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi

With the help of another RC I have been going through some information given to me regarding the Rook family.

However, I have used the new version of Family Search and have come up with some interesting entries.

The search I made was Father Robert Rook, mother Ann, 1783-1820, Kent (only Kent) using the "parents" option.

The results I have are interesting in that there are duplicate dates for what appears to be duplicate baptisms but in different parishes, ie Harbledown and Ham.  I am particularly interested in Sarah Rook (baptised 1792 - her entry appears to be duplicated as already mentioned) and Robert Rook(baptised 1784 again duplicated).

Can someone please offer me some assistance as to why they should have been duplicated in different parishes.

Harbledown and Ham are some 15 miles apart nowdays.

Thanks in ancitipation ...

ADDED: Having duplicated the search using the old version, the Ham ones do not appear

I am researching the family of Robert Rook (b1746), wife Ann Lucas (b1746), and think that the family includes children: Robert, Elizabeth (b1787 Canterbury), Mary Ann Maria, and Sarah (b1792 Harbledown).

Elizabeth would be my GGG Grandmother (married Michael Bateman, b1776 Folkestone, parents John and Mary). I also have her parents as Richard Lucas and Ann Martul, Fleet marriage, but living in Saint Paul's Cray.

I have Robert Rook (b1746) with parents Robert Roock and Elizabeth and am stuck there.

Can you provide any help?

Thanks,

A posible explanation for the duplicate baptism entries might be that Ham was a Chapel of Ease for Harbledown. This situation occurs in the Deal records when St George's was a Chapel of Ease for St Leonard's. Baptisms, Marriages and Burials were often, though not always recorded in both the mother church and the Chapel.
Possibly quite wrong in your instance but could be a reason.

Another might be that they are both on the same film and the records for one have been  attributed to the other
