It appears that I need to find a professional who can research the church records.  To determine which churches are located in the area where I want to search, I need to understand the Irish terms in locating a specific location.  Example in the United States we have the country of America--, we have states, then within the states we have counties and within counties we have cities.  I do not understand Baronies, Parish's etc.  If I researched churches how would I be able to find which churches were located in:

#1 Monoghan, disterict castleshane, Tirmacmoe.
#2, etc. the following, particularly the one on Phllip McSherry in Currin and the Phillip McSherry in Monoghan
In 1663 and in 1665 - Barony of Monaghan, Parish of Monaghan, Townland of Monaghan - Philipp O'Sherry
In 1663 - Barony of Monaghan, Parish of Tedavnet, Townland of Foremas - Patrick O'Sharry
In 1665 - Barony of Monaghan, Parish of Ballytraboy or Rosslea, Townland of Kilcorran -Humphry Sherrighy
In 1663 - Barony of Trough, Parish of Errigal Trough, Townland of Drummond - James O'Sharry
In 1665 - Barony of Trough, Parish of Errigal Trough, Townland of Glen More - Patrick O'Sharry
In 1665 - Barony of Trough, Parish of Errigal Trough, Townland of Dellynarget - James O'Sharry
In 1665 - Barony of Trough, Parish of Errigal Trough, Townland of Cavanmore - Hugh Roe McSharry
In 1663 - Barony of Dartrey, Parish of Currin, Townland of Killark - Torlogh McSharry
In 1665 - Barony of Dartrey, Parish of Currin, Townland of Cavanreagh - Philipp O'Sharry
In 1663 - Barony of Dartrey, Parish of Drumully (Currin), Townland of Concealing - Patrick McSharry

Thank you.

Frank

The usual order for Irish land descriptions is townland, (civil) parish, county. See reply #3 on this thread- www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,457812.0.html

Also have a look at Monaghan Resources thread for some church information-

Am I off base in assuming there is a greaert chance that my ancestors would have been Roman Catholic?  The church of Ireland was.........?????  Protestant?  Oh boy, hate not knowing this.

Do you not know what religion they were?

C of Ireland is Protestant.

Just Googled "Castleshane"......

St Mary's Church, Clontibret would be the most likely RC church, but there's also St Michael's, Annyalla and All Saints', Doohamlet but the are all in the one parish!  http://www.parishofclontibret.com/html/history.html

Under "Priests" there is an email address.

Recent death notice;

The death has occurred of Caroline HAUGHEY of Tiermacmoe, Castleshane, Monaghan
Reposing at her late residence. Removal tomorrow morning, Thursday, at 10.15am for Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Clontibret, at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Slater’s 1846 Directory:

Sherry, Patrick, Saddle and Harnessmakers, Park Street, Monaghan.

Henderson’s 1856 Directory:

Sherry, Patrick, Saddler & Publican, Park Street, Monaghan.

Slater’s 1870 Directory:

Sherry, John, Dublin Street, Monaghan.
Sherry, Margaret, Park Street, Monaghan.
Sherry, Owen, Saddler, New Street, Carrickmacross.

Slater’s 1881 Directory:

Sherry, Edward, Farmer, Eshcloghfin, Tedavnet.
Sherry, Hugh, Esq., Dublin Street, Monaghan.
Sherry, Hugh, Auctioneers, Dublin Street, Monaghan.
Sherry, Hugh, Agent (House, Land & Estate), Monaghan.
Sherry, Owen, Saddlers & Harnessmakers, Evelyn Street, Carrickmacross.
Sherry, Owen, Black and White Smith, York Street, Castleblaney.

Slater’s 1894 Directory:

McSherry, Richard, Town Clerk and Stationer, Main Street, Ballybay.
Sherry, Owen, Saddler, Evelyn Street, Carrickmacross.
Sherry, Patrick, Farmer, Eshcloghfin, Tedavnet.
Sherry, Hugh, Grocer and Spirit Dealer, Dublin Street, Monaghan.
Sherry, Patrick, Saddle and Harnessmakers, The Hill, Monaghan.

The Irish Times gives a bit of a break down of the distribution of the surname McSherry and it variants:

The Monaghan County Library has a very useful online guide to tracing your ancestors which is worth a look.

Cheers,

Janet.

Thanks Shane and Janet  How large of a place is Tiermacmoe?  Janet, I "assume" the directories were for Monoghan (county or town?)   Thanks for the suggestion Shane, I will google churches to see what records they have and see if they do research.
