Marriage Thomas Gillespie & Eliza Beatty(widow)
« on: Wednesday 12 January 11 17:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi folks,

Trying to find the marriage of my great great grand parents.

Eliza may have been a widow at the time of her 2nd marriage to Thomas Gillespie c 1860-63. She had 2 children Samuel and Jane Beatty. I believe that her kids married in the Larne district and its therefore possible that Eliza was resident in Larne at the time of her second marriage. Her first husband may have been John Beatty and her maiden name Rowan.

Thomas and Eliza spent their married life in Ballylinney.

I hope that someone can help me with this.

Thanks

Have you searched anywhere for her marriages yet? Although you seem to want details of the first one (?) the 2nd one would narrow down the possible dates. What ages were her children? if they were born before 1845 then you'll need to search for church records (if born after 1845 and it was a non-Catholic marriage then you should find it in the civil registration index)

LDS Pilot Site has a marriage for Eliza Rowan (age 45), daughter of Lewie Hill, m.14 Dec.1852 Larne district to John Beatty (age 26) son of Thomas Beattie
(original probably needs to be check in light of bride being listed as 45)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Aghadowey,

Eliza died June 1921 aged 96 - death registered by her daughter Jane Cowan nee Beatty - in Ballyclare. Age is consistent with 1901 &1911 census records for Eliza - she is living with her son Thomas Gillespie and grand children Alice and Alex Gillespie (children from the first marriage of her son William). I have a copy of her husband Thomas's will (1897)in which he bequeaths £5 each to Samuel Beatty and Jane Beatty or Cowan - hence my assumption that Jane is a daughter of Eliza from a previous marriage. Jane Beatty married David Cowan in Larne 2 Oct 1873 - all ties in again with census records.

I've checked Emerald Ancestors and Ulster Historical and the IGI for the marriage of Thomas and Eliza and can find nothing.

Hi,
Like Aghadowey I can find the first marriage which took place in Larne Registrars Office. I cannot find a marriage of Beatty or Rowan to Thomas Gillespie. Closest I can get is Eliza Jane Beatty to Issac Gillespie in 1863 but that happened near Newry.
