Where is Salford??
« on: Thursday 13 January 11 22:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a family called, Smith! :o  Yes!!! one of the dreaded most common surnames.

I have been searching a microfilm at the LDS of Baptisms.  And have come across lots and lots of SMITHS.

Two places named are Salford and Foxholes in BURNLEY. ???

I have a couple of maps of Burnley but cannot find where these two places are on the map.  The microfilm is of St Peter's Church,  which doesn't help much I know, as everyone came from all over to be baptised there.

The dates are between 1750-1845.

Any help appreciated :)

Cancan :)

St. Peter's Catholic Church was on Collier Street in the Greengate section of Salford, England. My grandfather, whose first wife died at a young age, married his second wife there in 1944. They have torn down and rebuilt a great deal of Salford as much of it was bombed during World War II.  My Mom took me there when I was 11 and I still remember much of it the way it was. But when I went back a few years ago, I recognized very little as it had changed so much.

Hiya Cancan  ;D

I am sure I have heard of a "Salford" in Burnley but I can`t quite remember where.   :-\  It is certainly not listed on the 1851 street index, but I am sure it`s there somewhere  ::)   I will have a look through my books tomorrow as it`s a bit late now and I`m off to bed.  I have not come across a Foxholes, apart from the one near Rochdale.  I will have a look though.

Burnley is about 30 miles north of Salford.

There is a Foxholes in the High Peak district which is about 20 miles southeast of Manchester. My cousins live not too far from there in Chapel-en-le Frith.

Have not heard of a Salford in Burnley, the only Salford I know of is on the outskirts of Manchester. They are not far from each other as my friend  lived on Burnley Rd which runs from Burnley into Todmordon and she used to drive to work in Saford ( 3040 min) check if Burnley has a webpage they should as todmordon has at least two and it's a much smaller place.
Morris x Thomas family. I think they lived in Meline but are registered at Narberth.

Here's a map of Manchester, showing Salford.  If you go directly North, you'll find Burnley'

I'm sure that Cancan is perfectly aware of the whereabouts of Salford near Manchester, where she lives! Also of Burnley, further north in Lancashire.
I think she is trying to find a Salford or similar, in or near Burnley
