Davis, Arthur
« on: Sunday 16 January 11 04:05 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information re Arthur Davis, born Camberwell Surry 1858.

Appears in 1861, 1871 censuses. Shown in 1911 census at an institution in Southwark. Which one I cannot determine.

Any ideas on how I can find the missing census information?
Have tried Ancesty and Findmypast at the local library, but no go.

Most frustrating.

Hi,
Do you have a subscription? If so if you click on the address tab above the record it will help with establishment.
On free indexes there seems to be only one Arthur Davis b 1858 in Southwark, hope i m looking at right one.
Best wishes

Cathy,

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I do not have a subscription at this time, and organisations are not permitted  subscriptions. As a member of the Society of Aust Genealogists, even they cannot get a subscription for the 1911 census.

Is it possible that "institutions" in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses did not fill out census forms for inmates?, as I am assuming that the one in 1911 was a mental type. No reason for the thought but.....

Thanks for your help

Suzard

Thanks for that, but the information I have gathered is that his wife was a Kate Ward, married in 1875, 3 months before first child born!!, BUT it could be possible as second child, my maternal grandmother was born in 1879. He was a Mercantile Clerk on the marriage certificate. In 1879 shown as a greengrocer on birth certificate of 2nd child, and as a cashier in 1903 for marriage of daughter.

If Kate died or disappeared between 1879 and 1891 he could have remarried so I will have to go through FreeBDM to see if I can find out.

It is getting more interesting all the time.

Again, thanks for the information which will cause more work.

Hi

"Any ideas on how I can find the missing census information? "

If you could confirm the childrens details that would help to find the family?
If you could confirm the census details that you have found (inc census refs) then that might help too?
Save us all having to do the same work (and be wrong).

Thanks
Ray
