John Henry 'Harry' Cripps in Utah
« on: Sunday 16 January 11 11:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi all!

I am looking for details of a g-g-great uncle of mine, John Henry Cripps who moved to Utah, possibly in his 30s. He was known as Harry, so he might have used his nickname on census records.

I have some information on him which I found in a collection of notes kept by a relative of mine. He emigrated from England on the advice of his doctor who said the damp climate would make his condition worse unless he left. He married in Utah on 10 Sep 1899 to Lizzy Harlin, Harling or Harlam (possibly something else) and had two sons before he died in 1903 of T.B.
I would be so grateful if somebody could help find out when he arrived in America; where abouts he is buried; who his two sons were and more on his wife Lizzy.

Obviously there is a chance that his two sons could still be alive (unlikely, but possible so if anybody could find their names - it might be better to inbox them instead)

Attached is a photo of him (lightly pencilled on the photo is 'Uncle Harry Cripps, died early leaving two sons')

Thanks a lot everybody! :)

Hi Sandra

Thanks for your help, so much information! I looked at the FamilySearch website but found no records for him.

I wonder what the actual spelling of the Harlin/Harlan/Hanlan name is?! It seems to have been documented differently in almost every different record.

Strange that the names for John Henry Cripps' children are not given, maybe they could be alive?

Is the 1900 census which has James Cripps with Lizzy is strange. Do you think it is likely to be an error on their part? Or might it be another family?

So much more to look into now!

Thanks again,

Miles  :)

This looks like the death of Patrick Harlan albeit the age is ou, the job description fits him on the 1900 Census.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bbp/

The death of Eliza Lannin Harlan 23 November 1932 Corinne, Utah.  The middle name was used for Robert Lannin Harlan who married Edna Hancock  26th April 1905.

Can't seem to see any trace of the children but they could have died, Lizzie could have remarried and they took the name of the new husband.

Lizzie surname was spelt so many different ways - the family should be in Utah in 1880 but I have'nt come across them yet.  Lannin could be a clue to the maiden name of Eliza Harlan !!

Just come across your web-site with the lovely photographs, always nice to put faces to names. Looks like you have a few that immigrated to the USA
