Thomas SHORLAND

I am trying to find out who Thomas Shorland was married to. The couples daughter Sarah was born in Yeovil, Somerset in 1802 and I think they may have had a son John born in 1805. I have two possible surnames, Spiller or Pillars. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Many thanks

Sarah SHORLAND died 2 May 1812 and was buried 9 May 1812 St John the Baptist Yeovil. She was aged 32 - wife of Thomas and mother of his 10 children
Thomas SHORLAND was died 6 Jul 1837 and was buried 13 Jul 1837  St John the Baptist Yeovil. He was aged 58 - 40 Years Surgeon in Yeovil. Husband of Sarah.

There is a Bounty immigration 4 Feb 1841 aboard the MARQUIS OF HASTINGS for John SHORLAND aged 36 of Yeovil listing his parents as Thomas SHORLAND Surgeon of Yeovil and Sarah SPILLER

Hi,

Thank you for all the wonderful information. It is greatly appreciated. I wonder if you could wave your magic wand and help me to discover the name of the mother of Thomas Shorland born in 1788. The records show his mother as being Joan Peddle but in the will of his sister born in 1784 he is mentioned as a sibling together with John and Eunice. Her mother was Eunice Warry married to Thomas Shorland (b 1745/6)
I can only suppose that Joan was the first wife but can find no record of her death

Who is Thomas SHORLAND born in 1788? We don't have one so far to match this.

The first we have married in 1796 so certainly not born in 1788.

There was a Thomas SHARLAND = Joan PEDDLE by licence 17 Dec 1770 Yeovil St John witnesses W Dornett and Jas Upton Skipp

This would fit with the time line I would expect for the probable birth of Thomas who married in 1796. His death  in 1837 would suggest a birth about 1778/9 although I would suspect he was a little older than this having married in 1796 and been a surgeon for 40 years.
