1851 census request

hi i am trying to trace the records of james waterfield and eliza waterfield they were born in union workhouse in tavistock their mother was called elizabeth waterfield think she was put into the workhouse because she was pregnant and not married.  Would appriciate any help with trying to trace some of the records for these people

There is no record of an Eliza Waterfield in 1851 in Devon that I could find.  Sorry

thanks that is the right one trying to find their mother mother now in 1841 tavistock her name like i said was elizabeth not sure on age

Hi,

William Martin is my ancestor, and it is with his family that your James Waterfield is in residence.

In reading your research request, I looked back at my own records and found the following: In the 1861 Census, James M. Waterfield is living with William Martin's family. But at the next address, there is an Eliza Martin with her daughter Eliza (aged 2). Perhaps she was the mother of James and a sister of William, that being the reason James was boarded out to William's family? The Waterfields appear on my ancestors' marriage certificate in St. Andrews, Plymouth. Both William Martin Waterfield and Elizabeth Waterfield are witnesses to the marriage of William Martin and Joanna in 1831.

On reflection, I would say that the connection lies with William Martin Waterfield - perhaps the father of James Martin Waterfield?
