Thank you so much for all your time, you've given so much information! Very happy that one of the houses which the Browns lived in, in Deptford, is amazingly still there!

With a name like Hephzibar Claydon, it was pretty easy to find more information on her through Familysearch.org and Mundia.com. Her name was Hephzibah Ralling and was from Stambourne. From that I found her parents who were John Ralling and Bridget 'Biddy' Banks.

Thanks again Louisa, interesting though that this has proved that the Brown's aren't from actually from Essex (as previously thought). The furthest back for the Brown line would be Albert Brown born in Whitechapel, but we know his father is William Brown who was also a P.C. which should (fingers crossed) make it easier to search the census returns.

Should I post a new query for that information in the London and Middlesex board?

Kind regards
Miles

I'll definitely remember to look into the police constable records. What sort of information would I be able to expect from them? Should be interesting nevertheless!

Thanks again

Hi Miles
Well the records for PC's should tell you years of service, where stationed, pension,  but it does look as if he did quite a few years as a PC and then as a PS

1881 Elizabeth is under CLAYDEN working as a housemaid at Birdbrook in Essex, aged 22, correct place of birth

Can't as yet find Albert in London

I have just come across this posting as I have been absent for several weeks and noticed that Elizabeth Clayden features in my family tree.  You may have this information already. She was baptised in Steeple Bumpstead 27 Oct. 1861 the daughter of  George Clayden & Emma Darkin. As far as I have ascertained her siblings were
William George 1853
Julia Ann 1857
Flora 1863
Frederick 1866-1871
Mary 1870
George 1873

George & Emma's marriage in 1855 was about 2 years after the birth of William George, but he was registered as Clayden. I have no information on Emma's parents.

George's parents were John Clayden 1801-1873 and Hepzibah c1807-1883. I do not know her maiden name but she was born in Stambourne, which is a village in Essex on the border with Suffolk. I haven't got access to Stambourne parish records.

George Clayden's parents are Thomas Clayden c1770- and Elizabeth Dyer 1777-. These are my 4GGrandparents.
