From what unit was he discharged? COMPLETED - thanks
« on: Monday 24 January 11 18:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Edwin was a farrier in the (R)ASC but in which Company? Snippet attached.

Also, he was a Farrier CPL which I believe to be Lance Corporal of Horse - is this equivalent to L/Cpl or Corporal?

based on other info in his service record, 878 (H T) Company, H T = Horse Transport. It looks like he was with 665 Company at one time too.

From this snippet it looks as though he was discharged from a unit of the RASC (Royal Army Signals Corps) to which he would have been attached. At that time most units of the British Army would have members of the HT Company attached.

johnny_doyle - you're a lot more observant than I! Thanks.

I had a look at the Long, Long Trail but 878 isn't listed.

Any thoughts regarding rank?

The thread at the GW forum has a bit on farrier ranks. Looks like equivalent to a Corporal.

878 Company looks like it was a Home Service company based in the Salisbury Plain area.
