Sanatoriums in Nottingham
« on: Tuesday 25 January 11 12:59 GMT (UK) »
I have discovered that my great Aunt Doris M Green died in 1946 aged just 14 in a Sanatorium for TB patients.  They lived in Nottingham and I was wondering if anyone could advise what the name of the Sanatorium was likely to be?   My mum thinks Newstead Abbey was one but she doesnt think that was the one Doris was in - where there any others in the Area?

this link to the Basford San. Doris Green death is registered in Basford July Q 1946 3c/42 she was aged 14. I would have thought this was the most likely one,if you send for her death cert it should tell you. There is an article on the link page on the hospital.
There was one at Newstead and also Ransom San near Rainworth.

Three years later, I've just seen your message about sanatoriums in the Nottingham area.

No doubt you've got the answers to your questions now but I can tell you that there was a sanatorium at Basford, Nottingham.  In fact I was a patient there for a year between October 1955 and October 1956.  There were three wards and I recall the doctors then were called Tozer, Whittaker and Rooke.

Best wishes.
