Searching for a written article/pamphlet.
« on: Tuesday 25 January 11 21:26 GMT (UK) »
Its quite possible I have posted this message in the wrong dept  but its a strange request and I was unsure.

While researching,I came across something that my Grt Grandfather had written in 1889,its described as a possible pamphlet or article.
It was auctioned with various other miscellaneous pamphlets and articles and it was called:-
Richard C Ramshaw Reminiscences of East African Life and Adventure(Manchester,1889)
I have no idea who bought it, or if there may be copies of this anywhere else, if anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction as to how I might get some more information about this I would be most grateful.

Thank you.
 Maureen

I googled "Richard Ramshaw african" and came up with this:
http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=3976055
- which has the pamphlet bound with some other related letters and documents.

I think if it was my ancestor I'd start by asking questions at something like the British Library or any other major library.  If it was published as a pamphlet then copies of it could have ended up in a number of different collections and if they ended up in a major library somewhere it would have been catalogued.

Thank you so much for your reply Corinne, it would be wonderful if there had been other copies , the link shows the auction prices as being certainly well out of my league so I wouldnt be able to go down that avenue.
I will do as you say and get in touch with the Library in Leeds.
I will keep you posted should I have any luck.

Maureen

Hi Maureen

did you have any luck with getting in touch with the Library in Leeds to establish if there were copies of the articles / pamplets..?

Thanks

Clive

Hi Clive,

I am sorry but we have been unable to pass on your message to Maureen, it looks like she has emigrated and we do not know her new email address  :'(
