Strange that both of them have the same surname, it's not that common is it, I wonder if they were related.

1891 West Street Private House, Crowland, Lincolnshire
All born Crowland
John Hall Head M 32 Mail Contractor
Emma Wife M 48
Robert Middleton Son S 15
Emily Middleton daur S 12
Herbert Middleton son 10
Gertrude Middleton daur 9
Ethel Hall daur 5
Sydney Hall son 3
RG12; Piece:  1232; Folio  123; Page  2

Next door there is a John (Wid 63) Hall that has been changed to Hill and children Sarah Jane 36 and Florence Gertrude 15.  Keep them in mind in case it proves to be Hall.

There is a marriage for a John Hall Q1 1885 Peterbro'  3b 263 where an Emma Middleton is listed as one of the possible spouses.

Hmmm difficult.  You can see the 1881 census for yourself on www.familysearch.org (scroll down to the bottom for a link to the old search) and you will be able to see the Middleton family, Mark and Emma with children who match those with John Hall in 1891, but there is also a widowed Mother in Law, Mary Sharpe 78 years old, perhaps Mary had been married twice then.....

or maybe not, do I have completely the wrong family as I can find a marriage between Mark Middleton and Emma Sharpe Q4 1865  Peterbro  3b 479, so the line I have been following hasn't had an Emma Hall marrying a John, sorry for wasting your time.

And in 1881, RG11, piece 1597, Folio 49, Page 24,  we find at Chapel Street, Crowland:

Middleton, Mark  Head  M  39  Mailcart Driver  b Stamford, Lins
Middleton, Emma  Wife  F  38  b Crowland
Middleton, Ernest H  Son  M  14  B Peterboro
Middleton, Ada S  Daughter  F  10  b Crowland
Middleton, Robert M  Son  M  5  b Crowland
Middleton, Emily J  Daughter  F  2  b Crowland
Middleton, James H  Son  M  6 months  b Crowland
Sharpe, Mary  Mother-in-Law  F  70  Parochial Annuitant  b Crowland.

N.B. Census return is enumerated in Peterborough, Northamptonshire!

Personally I think it's a possible match on the family.
Where did the original marriage info come from?
How do you know that Emma's maiden name was Hall?
