Treorchy Cemetery
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 19:40 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if anyone has the burials CD/Information for Treorchy please, and would be so kind to do a quick look up?

I am trying to find the burial for Florence Nellie Davies, who died on 7th January 1977.

I am hoping her Husband - William - is buried with her - it's his date/year of burial I am really after.

I have a letter suggesting he's buried in Brithdir, but the council have been great, looked at their records, but can't find one.  I know Florence died in East Glamorgan Hospital, but was living in a Residential home in Treorchy at the time ....

Thank you

Hi Welsh Girl,

I can't see her as being buried there...have you thought that given the year she might have been Cremated.

Does the Residential Home still hold her records?

Hi Ambers

No, unfortunately they don't.  I asked them that exact question :)  They explained that she had been discharged from the home to the Hospital (where she died) they wouldn't have had any further invovlement, and he records would have been destroyed after 7 years.  The only had the bare minimum in a book .....

Hmmmm ... OK .. I now think that maybe they are closer to Pentrebach, where they lived when her Husband died.  The letter she wrote definately indicated Brithdir though - but we've not been able to find it .....

I'll keep searching (somehow)

Thank you

Hi Welsh Girl,

The list I have was copied to a Spreadsheet, so there is always the possibility that she has been missed... it only shows year of death and name.

When she was in hospital she would have named a next of kin and they would have been responsible for her funeral. I would think she would have been returned to either where her family lived or she did at one time...and where William is buried.

I  think her Obituary would have been noted in the local newpapers where her family lived, you could learn a lot from that if you can find it...was there a Will?.

You have done well to trace a Davies family to 1977, I can't get any further than 1911 with my lot...so many of the same name ???

Are you sure she wasn't Cremated?

Hello Welshgirl

You could try Treorchy Library (check RCT Council site):

http://www.rhondda-cynon-taf.gov.uk/

They have a reference enquiry service for people involved in family history. As you have the date of death they could check the local newspapers for an obituary, and probably be able to provide a photocopy for a fee.

Kind Regards
Morgan

My little lot are nothing but trouble - Evans, Davies & Smith !!!  PALEEZE :)

Well, they lived in Pentrebach, before she went into the Home.  Her family live in Birmingham, so I don't think the obit notice would be local to them ... it might be in the Merthyr Express though ... I could check that now I have a date fo death for her - good thinking.  I haven't checked for a will yet.

I think the Merthyr cemeteries would be a good start ... we've come up with nothing for Williams death or burial.

The other odd thing about this is that the only marriage I could find for a William Davies to a Florence Nellie, was a Florence Nellie DAVIES .. but on her DC she is shown as a JENKINS ... now I can't find births OR a marriage for the boys with their MMN as Jenkins or a Jenkins/Davies marriage .... 3 steps forward and 2 back .... ARGH!!!!

PALEEZE is an unusual surname  ;D

The marriage of William Davies and Florence N Davies in 1915 (Merthyr 11a 1204) may have been mis-transcribed, or there may have a mistake on the register.

The death index gives her date of birth as 13th Sept 1891 (Pontypridd 27 1531), but there is a birth of Florence Nellie Davies in 1894 (Neath 11a 816). It's possible that Jenkins was a mistake on the death certificate.  :-\

Related threads with more information, especially link to Morlais St, Merthyr, in 1968, and the letter that William may be buried at Brithdir.

I have the MC showing her as a Davies (MN) .. the Father of William is correct, and they are living in the right area of Merthyr (Pentrebach).  Her Father is also shown as a DAVIES too !!

The Son put down JENKINS on his Mothers DC - I hadn't seen or heard of it before now - so I don't know, but her Place of Birth (on the DC) is definately shown as Neath, in 1891.

ha ha .. I have plenty of PALEEZE's ... growing by the day ha ha

I guess I now need to try and find Florence's burial ... my next quest.  She lived in Pentrebach, the last 2 years of her life in a Residential home in Treorchy, but died in East Glamorgan Hospital.  She isn't buried in treorchy .. so I'll have to check Merthyr ...

Thanks again :D
