Joseph William McGaughey b. 1877 [Birth Certificate]
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 21:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi All!

I'm working on my dad's side of the family tree, and have hit a brick wall with my Great Grandfather, here's what I know:
  • Joseph William McGaughey
  • Most likely born around 1877 in Glenanne, Co. Armagh
  • Married c. 1910 in or near Glenanne to Sarah Elizabeth Leathem
  • Worked as coachman/steward for William Benjamin Gray of Maytone, Mountnorris
  • Appears on the 1911 Census
  • Church of Ireland
  • Two sons: William Norman [26-Aug-1912]; Grenville [Oct-1912]

Can anyone help out finding Joseph's parents names, more exact dates for him or them, or well anything really to boost the McGaughey line back a bit!

Appreciate any and all help.

Ta,

Bert  ;D

Superb kingkerswell many thanks, so how would I find the certificate...Irish GRO? Church of Ireland?

Edit: Would that be St Patrick's on the Newry Road?

Hi again,
How sure are you of the middle name William? I have found the birth of a Joseph WALKER McGaughey in Armagh on 15 Jan 1877 to James McGaughey and Mary Walker. It is an extracted record from the IGI which should be reasonably accurate.

Hmm yes I saw that too! I'm 90% sure it's William though, the absolute certain facts are:

The names of his sons, the name of his wife and his birth in Glenanne.

Middle name I am yet to confirm on any records, as the 1911 census has no middle name.  However two separate living relatives have confirmed his middle name.

Would that be the church in question? St Patrick's Church, Loughgilly?

The picture doesn't look like St. Patrick's (Church of Ireland), Newry- see photos here:

The picture you've posted is this church which is Loughgilly Parish Church:

Hello,
I have attached a recent photograph of Loughgilly C Of I. (front view) I have also taken a photo of the names of deceased which still have headstones standing. A little map provides the location of each grave. A lady who has access to burial recods said some older records were burnt in a fire but also some have survived.
