Frank Upson-Royal Army Service Corps
« on: Monday 31 January 11 21:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I was looking for some information more than anything....Frank upson served as a driver in WW2 for Royal Army Service Corps.

He was found guilty of murdering a German girl in Germany in Aug 1946 and was hung in Jan 1947 by PierrePoint at Hameln prison Germany along with German soldiers that ran the concentration camps.

I believe he was wrongly accused from what I have heard.

i have no idea of his age, where he was buried, lived etc. i only know he had 3 sisters, Marion, Phyllis and Winnie.

Any information on this story would be appreciated.

Frank was my uncle, but I never new him. I have the newspaper articles, and also the letter he wrote to my Gran the night before he died.

If you reply to this, we can set up some contact off board.

Regards

Graham

Hi I have been sent a newspaper article claiming he did assault a German girl. I believe he was my Grans cousin and my Great Aunt Olive saw him before he was hung.I have since been told that someone later admitted upon their death that they actually murdered the German girl. Is this true?

Hi
My line is
Harriet La Page m. Francis John Burton
Elsie May Burton m. George Upson
Daughter Marion (Brother of Frank)
Me.

What is yours - are you a Falla?

There were 6 children of Elsie and George
Phyllis
George
Francis John (Frank) b. 18th December 1919, in Guernsey
William John
Winifred
Marion.

Only Marion is still alive.

The family were evacuated to Huddersfield in 1940, but Frank was already in the army by then. There was a massive outcry and a 10,000 name petition against his sentance in Huddersfield.

I would be very interested in a scan of your article, and any stories of your Aunt Olive.

Regards

Graham

PS this is facsinating!

I was sent the newspaper article on here so if you can provide an e-mail address I would be happy to send the email I have. I believe my aunty Olive was in Germany after the war anyway and on hearing of Franks trial she went to see if she could help get him off and apparantly he swore ademate to her that he was innocent. Told her they were all drunk the night the assault took place but swore he was not the one that ended her life.

My line is as follows:

Harriet Le Page m francis John Burton
Winnie Pippard m Edward Burton (so Elsie's brother)
Children are:
Olive Burton
May Winifred Burton (my gran)
Alf Burton
Primrose Burton
Pansy Burton
Barry Burton
Iris Burton
( all deceased but Olive & May)
May Burton m Howard Walden
Linda Walden m Paul Gilliver
 me

Very Interesting indeed!
