Owen Mcguirk, Monaghan
« on: Tuesday 01 February 11 19:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, trying to find some more info on my great grandfather Owen Mcguirk. i know he was born in Monaghan in 1847, his fathers name was Thomas Mcguirk. unsure what year he left Ireland, but he married Elizabeth Mullin in Liverpool in 1868 and they had 8 children; Thomas, Catherine, John, James, Annie, Margaret, Elizabeth( my Grandmother) and Ellen. He died in Liverpool in 1921. havnt got anything before 1868, so kind of hit a brick wall, so any help would be great. thanks.  Alan

For dates before 1864 (when birth registration started) you need to know a location to search for church records. Have you found Owen in 1911 English census yet? For copyright reasons we aren't allowed to do lookups for that census but many people have often foundthat it gives a more exact place of birth than 'Ireland' or the county.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi aghadowey, thanks for your reply, yes i have looked Owen up in the 1911 census, thats where i found out that he was born in County Monaghan, i have a copy of his marriage certificate to Elizabeth Mullin, Elizabeths fathers name was Edward Mullin. they both lived in Blenheim street, Liverpool at the time they wed. he died in Slade street, Liverpool in 1921. he is buried in a family grave at Ford cemetery, near Liverpool. thats as much as i have really. thanks agin.

hi,

RE: CHURCH RECORDS

I am not sure if this helps but.........................

My grandmother was ROSALINE McGUIRK from MONAGHAN - she was married in ST. MARYs church in SCOTSTOWN.

She had a brother called OWEN.

My g-g-grandfather was JOHN McGUIRK b. 1843 - he had a son called OWEN b. 1879, so the name is in the family ??

Maybe JOHN was a brother of the person you are looking for ??

JOHNs father was PATRICK McGUIRK b. 1804.

Maybe PATRICK and your THOMAS were related.
