Advice Needed - Cheriton, Hants
« on: Wednesday 02 February 11 17:54 GMT (UK) »
This is not a request for a look-up specifically, it is a request for help and advice on how you would decide which particular 'John' could be the father of my family in Cheriton?
I have posted earlier requesting ( and kindly receiving information) for the Stoneage/Stonage/Stonard/Stoner family of Cheriton Hampshire.

I have been left with the marriage of John Stonage (Stonard) to Ruth Oliver 1781 in Cheriton.
I have three posible baptisms for 'a' John Stonard in Cheriton
June 1752 - parents John & Mary;
July 1757 - parents Thomas & Betty
June 1758 - parents John & Mary.
If I take the 1752 John as having died, and the same parents John & Mary to John 1758, that leaves me with two to chose from.

I had wondered whether children of John & Ruth would be clue -
John, James, Mary, Thomas, Ruth in that order.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

The first John Stonard does indeed appear to have died young - buried in January 1753 - although there is nothing to indicate that he was a baby or who his parents were in the transcript.

So ideally, the 'other' John needs to be 'killed off' or married somewhere.  Its unfortunate that the remaining two are so close in age.  Thomas & Betty/Elizabeth also had Elizabeth and Thomas.

Not finding anything that would eliminate any of them at the moment  :(  No burials which I could definitely say might be connected - no ages given in the earlier ones.  The only name which is slightly out of the ordinary is Ruth - and that does not come from those you are trying to eliminate.

Hmmm.

Thank you ever so much Nell.  This family is proving to be a bit of nightmare!  I haven't been able to find anything for Ruth Oliver either other than her marriage entry in the IGI, I was hoping to find her father and see whether perhaps they would be following some form of family naming traditions.

Your time and your thoughts on this are much appreciated.
