Please Identify Medal and Year
« on: Saturday 05 February 11 16:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello - this is my wife's uncle Benjamin John Hollier b.1897 (Lambeth) proudly wearing a medal.  We know he served in France during WW1, but know very little of his early life.

We would be grateful if someone could identify the medal and take a guess at Benjamin's age in this photo.  We think he looks about 23 Circa 1920.

Thanks, Fred

he also has a pension record on Ancestry,,,,,,he was discharged due to poor eyesight,,,the record is mostly about this,,,the treatment for his condition being the provision of glasses. ;)

The "medal" on his lapel looks very like the cap badge of the 6th (City of London Rifles) Bn. London Regiment, so a souvenir of his service rather than a medal.

It looks to me similar to the emblem which St Johns Ambulance  Brigade use as their badge.

Spot on...

Some of the centres were voided (apart from the bugle horn!), and the slider could easily be put through the button hole...

I reckon the "pin" is the dangly cords bit of the bugle horn...

One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

It is similar, as both use the "cross putte" or Maltese Cross...This has battle honours on and a crown though! ;D ;D ;D
