James Nation/Louisa Emma Lucas
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 01:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello i am looking for more information about James Nation and Louisa Emma Lucas who were both born in England.James in 1840 and Louisa in 1860. I would expect they married in England and moved to Tasmania where they had 3 children from 1898 to 1904. No Tasmanian records give any other information. Kind regards Tim Cordwell Tasmania Australia

Tim

Are you able to tell us what James' occupation was. A few in the UK census to choose from.

Thought that Tazzy death certificates named parents.

There is a James NATION who married a Lavinia SWEETINGHAM on the Isle of Wight in Hampshire, England in 1879, who is in Hobart by the mid 1880s having children. In 1881 census they were still on the Isle of Wight.

Landrock Cottage, Niton, Isle of Wight
James NATION, head mar 32, Waiter, born Hants, Basingstoke
Lavinia NATION, wife mar 30, born Hants, Southampton
Hilda NATION, dau 1, born Isle of Wight, Landown
James NATION, son 2m, born Isle of Wight, Niton
+ a servant
RG11/1186/7/8

There was a child born in Hobart in 1881, so they must have come out during that year. Lavinia NATION died aged 39 in Hobart in 1890.

There is a George NATION in Tasmania at the same time, possibly James' brother, although there were some convicts a few years before with the same surname. George married a Mary Matilda RODMAN in 1878, and they named one of their daughters Maud Lavinia.

If they were brothers then there is a good chance they were sons of Walter and Mary NATION of Wootton St Lawrence in Hampshire

If they are the same James and Louisa Nation who are living on Hamilton Road, New Norfolk on the 1914 electoral roll, then James is a carpenter

I think you need to find a Marriage in Tasmania for James and Louisa c 1897 in Hobart according to Tasmanian Archives Records

Other Children of James/Lavinia were;
WILLIAM GEORGE 1887/Died 1887
MARA birth 1888/Died 1889
