Andrew Terrace 1888 -Now on Lancashire site
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I have the 1891 OS Map of Harpurhey & Collyhurst but have been unable to find the above street.

Can anyone find it on a map for me? It think it is near Southwell Street. Maybe it is just off my map.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris

This may be totally irrelevant   :o

The 1891 census for the St George district of Manchester (which includes Blackley) mentions Andrews Dye Works, Andrews Reservoir and Andrew Street all near Rochdale Road

Thanks Linda,

I obtained some info from a rootschatter, who tells me that Andrew Terrace is listed in a Manchester Directory as being on Middlewood Street. But this does not show up on my map. It is just off Rochdale Road as you suggested.

Regards,

Chris

Hi

Often a Terrace wasn't an actual street but the name given to a row of houses, in this case in Middlewood Street. The name is not usually included on maps.

Hi Linda and Andy,

Thanks so much for all the effort you have made on my behalf to track down this Terrace. It may have just been a stone name plaque inset into the brickwork in a row of houses on Middlewood Street!

The reason I wanted to find it was that I found my G- grandma Laura Ellen FISH on the 1881 census of Harpurhey, at 44 Andrew Terrace, aged 3 years. I thought it would be interesting to find it on a map.

Regards,
Chris
