A Fly was a type of light horse-drawn carriage [however "fly" as a noun has well over a hundred different uses in English]. That fact, and the word "stable" leads one to suspect he was a stablehand or coach driver. One would need to know the full details in order to examine the entry better.
Your other post for Motor Man needs date clarification. He would not have been a driver of any kind before the early 1900's at best. However he may have been an attendant upon a motor or a mechanic or the "driver" of a stationary engine. when was this, where did he live?
We'll help you more easily with queries if you remember we need to know Who? When? Where?

Hi Hack,
Sorry I am new.
It was James Twyman
1881 and 1901 census states Fly Pro ????
He lived in Canterbury
In the 1891 he was a Coachman.
Many thanks for your time

Hi Zoe

If it's the one who was living at 3 Oaten Hill Place in 1881, it says "Fly Proprietor".

Thanks very much it is the one.
Am I annoying you because if I am just say so. I am not sure whether to ask questions or not because I don't want people to think I am not doing any research myself as I am at a standstill and found this great site.
Many many thanks again

Hi Zoe

No, you are not annoying anybody.  That's exactly what Rootschat is all about - for everybody to help each other along with their family trees whether it be to help find a family in a specific resource, give opinions on difficut to deciper handwriting (it does get easier the more you look at old records) or just some friendly advice.

Best wishes

Hi Zoe
Casalguidi had already made the correct guess before seeing the census page but, as you see, she was able to confirm that once she was able to look for herself - from the details you supplied. Rootschat has a fair few knowledgable and helpful members who will steer you right when you start. It is all a bit confusing when one starts out family research - later it gets even more confusing in my family! 8)
