COMPLETED..Thanks St Mary's, Kersey Baptisms : HARVEY
« on: Tuesday 08 February 11 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I'm not sure where babies born in Kersey would be baptised  but if someone knows perhaps they'd be very kind and look for baptisms on my behalf please?

I'm looking  for ANN HARVEY  between  1800 and 1810..specifically.

I know ELIZA and FREDERICK HARVEY (siblings) were born in Kersey in 1813, 1811 respectively but I'm not sure if they were baptised there as they are a St Osyth, Essex family originally..
If anyone can look for these three and any relevant others, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks for any help offered.
June

The parish  church on the top of the hill is dedicated to St Mary.

If you look carefully the next time the Meercats.com advertisement showing Meerkova is shown, this is not Meerkova - it is Kersey  ;D

The village school is the Victorian building next to the church.
It is one of the better known villages in the county and is on all the tourist visits.  It was a place of pilgrimage on the route to Walsingham in Norfolk, esp at Easter.  There is still a huge stone marker in The Street, which are found all along the route.
Pilgrims would then go up the steps to the church on their knees.

You can see the church at Simon's web site www.suffolkchurches.co.uk

Pat ...

Thank you Pat

Would you believe the screensaver on my comp is the meerkat wallpaper taken from the www.comparethemeerkat.com website?
Perhaps it's an omen and someone will find my Harvey's for me.

I have been to Kersey something like 40 years ago? and I vaguely recollect a road with a dip and water running across (some sort of ford ) and having to stop and let a mother duck + ducklings in tow cross.  Very sweet.

Thanks for the link

Thank you Trevor.  To be truthful I didn't really expect to find Ann, she was born in St Osyth but there's no record of her there.  I have traced her birth to one of 5  sibling and the parents of  Fred and Eliza  were St O born and bred and had children prior to Fred & Eliza in St Osyth so I just thought  maybe she'd been born in St O just prior to their moving to Kersey and so was baptised there. All the family returned to Essex and their subsequent family history is well documented.  It's just little Ann I can't find.

Thanks again
June
