Bournemouth - Russian/Serbian burial
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 21:33 GMT (UK) »
We are looking fopr the burial location of the Russian-Serbian diplomat Gabriel Wesselitsky-Bojidarovich (1838-before 2.09.1930) (Vesselitsky).

He died in Bournemouth but according to the council,

"Not in the cemeteries. He may have been buried in a local parish church but I regret we do not keep records for those. "

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

At that time the Bournemouth registration district covered Bournemouth, Christchurch, Highcliffe, Holdenhurst, Hurn and Sopley;  a copy of his death certificate,  which should show his home address, might give an idea which area to search.

Thank you!

May be we can contact the local parishes before ordering a death cert - they became quite pricy.

We are very grateful for this lead

Had you thought whether he would have been Orthodox - I think they took Orthodox burials up to somewhere in Surrey in the 1960s, so he may well not have been buried in the Bournemouth area.
Leicestershire - Yates, Wright, Pole, Blakesley
Dorset - Tilley, Hunt
Dorset/Somerset - Rogers
Dorset/Southampton - Trodd

Thank you for your reply.

We know about quite a few Orthodox buried in Bournemouth, I believe it should not be a problem.
Place in Surrey is most probably Brookwood - there is no chance to get any information from them:(((

I had a look at the Bournemouth Echo archives in Bournemouth Library today. I did July, August and the first week of September, looking for a Death notice, but no joy I'm afraid. It is possible that other papers were offering the same service in 1930, but I ran out of time to explore anything else. My guess is that you'll need a certificate to progress, unless you can find burial records anywhere. I also asked at the Dorset FHS last week, and they tend to work to the old county boundaries when Bournemouth was in Hampshire, so have no transcriptions.
