Strange 1861 entry for St Helier - I decided to try and find daughter Ester in 1861

Elizabeth de St Croy 48 widow innkeeper
Esther Handy 12 daughter (age could possibly be 17)
Jane Amy 20 boarder

I can see a baptism at St Helier Church for a John Handy (born 5th Dec 1865) on 7th Jan 1866. Parents were Philip Handy and Elizabeth Marrett. Philip was a labourer. Godparents were Micheal Haffner and wife and Catherine Haffner.

There is no Thomas Handy on any CI or English census from 1861- 1901 who has a father Philip and a mother Elizabeth

The only Philip Handy on any CI census is the father and son shown above

The 1871 has Philip snr and jnr plus a son John aged 5

A Betsey Marrett 47 widow b St Helier and Thomas MARRETT aged 10 are shown as boarders

Great information!  Does the 1871 census have the age of the Phillip junior?
