HMS,NELSON?
« on: Tuesday 15 February 11 18:04 GMT (UK) »
I have just bought a lovely old book,'The Sea And It's Story' from a second hand bookshop.I am posting this picture for two reasons.
1. Someone may have had an ancestor on board and so like a copy.
2.The picture is titled HMS.Nelson and described as a first class battleship. On looking up this ship,I found she was built in 1925 and scrapped in 1949.Here lies the problem, this book was published in 1910 and this can only be the HMS.Nelson built in 1876 and sold in 1910,the same year as the book was published. This Nelson is described in a list of Royal Navy ships as a Nelson class armoured cruiser. So is the colour plate wrongly titled?

Here is a picture of the Nelson class according to Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:HMS_Nelson_(AWM_302451).jpg

Your picture is lacking the sails, a mast and the bowsprit, so one of them appears to be wrong. Unless you can find that it went in for a major re-design.
