Cow Lane Bridge crosses the canal in Chester. http://www.vrchester.co.uk/chester-cheshire-tour/source/cow-lane-bridge.html. Cow Lane was the old name of Frodsham Street.

I see that there is a Cow Lane in Lymm, St. Mary's, in the 1891 census, which is probably the correct one.

I see the Bridgewater Canal runs right through the heart of Lymm......the Bridgewater also runs directly through Hulme Manchester which is where my Great Grandparents ended up circa 1894 working as a BOATMAN no doubt travelling up and down the canal........Does anybody know if any records / sites exist re the Bridgewater Canal and the life of BOATMEN working the canal???

Hi, on a 1871 census one of my ancestors says she was born in St Mary's Cheshire. Does anyone know where that is, on a Google search all I get is hundreds of churches. Thanks, Barry

Hello

You may find www.genuki.co.uk helps with your query

1891 Census Renumerators description of his patch is one of the longest I have seen, it includes a desc of the parish boundary and the streets / farms etc contained with in the area and the the boats /barges

Being that part bounded on the North side by the River mersey: on the East by the Eccelsiastical district of St Peters Oughtrigton: and the osuth by the township of High Leigh, as far as Lymm Dam to Dan Head Bridge, thence along the Northside of Church Road to Station Road, thence along the East side of STation Rpad to the Canal Bridge thence along the canal to Thelwall PArish.....

Boats / Barges on the canal from Ditchfield Bridge to Broadys Cottage near Lymm Gas Works,

Look at this site http://lymm.com/about-lymm/history-of-lymm/bridgewater-canal-trade/view.aspx

This map shows the extent of the original Lymm Parish (108). In 1891 there are three enumeration districts in the civil parish, 7 & 8 are St. Mary and 9 is St. Peter, Oughtrington, which is a district originaly in Lymm parish.
