2011 NZ Census - 8th March COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 20 February 11 00:10 GMT (UK) »
I have just had my census papers delivered.  It occurs to me that if you don't want your descendants to find you,  be like the Christchurch Wizard and paddle your canoe out beyond the 20km Territorial limit, and they'll never get a clue!!  ;) ;)

Read about it here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_Census_of_Population_and_Dwellings

Getting the papers got me thinking though, about when the first census was taken, and what the population was, and in case you're  interested:-

First census of NZ was taken 1851, and was confined to Europeans. The population was 26,707,

The first census of Maori population was taken between Sept.1857 and Sept.1858 - population was 56,049, of whom 38,269 lived in the Auckland Province, However, there was a precautionary phrase on the published table - "numbers as far as can be ascertained".

Haven't had my papers yet
I see on TV that you can complete it online

I was an enumerator one year and it was very interesting..gave better picture of what its all about...but you certainly had to be prepared for abuse!!! etc..

What I found most interesting was you recorded areas of future development, new subdivisions etc..so could be useful for planning purposes.

8 Pages this time around - with 70 boxes!!  I think I'd rather just cruise through the paper copy and do what I what I can beforehand a bit at a time.  The online one can be done now, but once it's done, you can't view it again!

I'd rather spend my computer energy on my personal stuff and my research - just retired - doing this census online is just a bit too much like sitting at work entering data into a database!!  Boring! :D
It's almost a novelty to fill in paper forms now! LOL  Anyway, can't take my computer in my canoe!

Just my luck it would probably time out on me anyway!!  ;D Interesting to know what others think though.

I'm not too concerned about security aspect etc,  I believe that's pretty well covered these days with secure websites etc.
