Chile: Tribino family
« on: Monday 21 February 11 00:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

my great grandma was Chilean and as far as I am aware - it was her grandparents that traveled from Chile to Yorkshire, England. I was curious as to whether anyone would have any information on how, when or any other further information or ways to look into my Chilean side?

Her dad was called Manuel Tribino and her grandfather was called Antonio De Las Mercedes Tribino whose father was Eduardo Tribino and mother was Cruz Basurto (so I am lead to believe)

Any information would be fantastic.

Thankyou.

There is a lot of Chilean genealogy data on FamilySearch.

This looks to be the grandparents marriage:

(for the later info about Manuel in the US: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,515668.0.html )

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/ shows Manuel became a British citizen in 1911.

http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/28568/pages/48
 - the gazette entry for this.

As he was (I presume) working on Merchant ships I suggest you also go here:
http://www.southampton.gov.uk/s-leisure/artsheritage/history/maritimehistory/centralindex.aspx
They will charge you £15 but there's a chance you'd get a photo of him.

I think that, from this info, that Manuel would have been the only member of his family to come to the UK, and he likely did so as a crew-member.
