OLIVER marriage 1815
« on: Monday 21 February 11 18:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello Somerset,

A yorkie requesting help.

I have just traced an ancestors wedding -
Chistopher Oliver to Mary Ann Lewis Marshman at Bath St James on the 27th April 1815
What I would like now is a copy of the Parish Register to get all the detail, how do I get this.

Regards from upt North.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Oliver - Swinton nr. Rotherham, South Yorks
          - Wombwell nr. Barnsley, South Yorks
          - Sheffield and Wortley, South Yorks
          - Loughborough
Naylor- Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire

Hi Oly,

If you want a photocopy of the actual register entry, I expect Bath Archives or the Somerset Heritage Centre would send you one for a small fee.

http://www1.somerset.gov.uk/archives/

http://www.batharchives.co.uk/default.aspx

I don't know where you found the reference, if it was in FreeREG it probably contains everything you might find useful, except of course the actual signatures. (Given that it includes the witnesses, which some FreeREG marriage entries don't.)

 http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl

You can download a transcription of the St. James' register from the Bath Forum Hundred group

http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/bathforumhundred/

The only difference I can see between that and the FreeREG entry is that it includes that the bride was a minor - though you could have deduced that anyway from the parental consent.  You can also tell from the transcription that C. Wilson is a frequent witness and so probably a church official but Henry White doesn't recur and so was probably a friend or relative.

HTH

Sorry I have not answered sooner, trouble with my hard drive, luckily I had my stuff backed up.

Thank you David and Phil for your replies
David - on your advice I have ordered a copy and am awaiting it from Bath Archives they were very helpful.
It will be good to have a copy of the original sheet.
Phil - my wife's still a foreigner in Yorkshire (that woman from down south) she has only been here 25 years.

Kind regards Oly
