Can anyone help with any further detail of a Marriage 5th March 1859 St John Burslem of Mary Ann Hodgkinson & Richard Mill(w)ard
Need to check parents, residence details etc, I am wondering if these are two escapees from Derbyshire

Chris

Do you have any ages or more details for these people?

On IGI and FreeBMD the surname is Millard, do you have any reason to think it might be Millward?

Hello Paul,

I now have a copy of this marriage record from the parish records
It is definitely written as Millard, but would have been done by the official as both Richard & Mary Ann signed by a Mark X so wre illiterate so I suppose it depends how the surname was spoken.
Details are Richard age 43 Widower Labourer Currently resident Burslem Father Richard Millard a Butcher
Mary Ann Hodgkinson age 34 Spinster Currently of Burslem, father Richard Hodgkinson a Farmer
I do not know for definite if he is Millard or Millward but I am searching all possibles for a marriage of Richard Millward, b 1814 Allestree Derby  (Having beeen previously married to Eliza (Halsworth) died 1853 onwards (from last known child) to Mary Ann Hodgkinson b app 1823 Littleover Derby, and many details of this marriage fitted.
Still unsure however. Would you have any other info of Millards which might eliminate him?

Couldn't see Richard in 1861 but in 1871 they are together, listed as Millward again all b Allestree:

RG10, Piece 3577, Folio 13, P19

Richard     58
Mary    48
Robert    Son    38
Thomas    Son    23
Selina    Daughter    22
Mary A    Daughter    8

In someones tree on Ancestry, Richard's father is listed as Richard b 1779. Their names are Millward in that tree.

Mary Ann's parents are listed as:
Abraham Hodgkinson (1804 – 1877) and Ann Lovett (1804 – 1890)

Maybe useful as a cross check but I always treat these online trees with extreme caution!
