Marriage Lichfield Cathedral
« on: Saturday 26 February 11 14:20 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancesters Richard Eaton married an Ann White  7 Dec 1741  in the cathedral.

He was born and raised in Colwich.

Would it have been a "normal" thing for someone to of been married  in the cathedral  or would he have been someone of importance?

Thanks Wendy.

Hi Cathy, Thanks for your reply.
Sorry no idea.  As it was well before census time,  I also have no certificates etc.

Wendy.

Lichfield cathedral was often used by people with no parish (like my ancestor who came from Shropshire) or by people who for various reasons did not want to be married in their own parish, often because they simply did not want others knowing their business. Another ancestor at the age of 70 married his 26 year old bride at Lichfield even though he lived in nearby Stafford.

 Hi   Thanks for your reply,
That is something I hadn't thought about.  I was kind of hoping that he was an important figure .  I guess more research will be needed.

Thanks again Wendy.

Thanks so much for sending me those links. I didn't know that site existed.

It is certainly a possibility that I hadn't thought of.
I found other bits of information on there that was useful as well,  So it is worth bearing it all in mind.
