Deal marriage 1753
« on: Monday 28 February 11 13:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello

There is a marriage on the new family search website in Deal 4th Dec 1753 between James Parker &  Jane Pernade.

I can't see any other Pernade's on the website so am wondering if this surname is a transcription error.

If anyone has access to the original Deal Parish Records can they please check to see if the surname is Pernade.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Ravelin,

What is your connection to this couple? They are my 5X great grandparents, I have the same trouble with the name, that is how it is transcribed by Kent family History Society also, but I can find no other reference to such a name anywhere.

None of the children were given Pernade as middle name, so the trail has run cold.

Hello Jebber

James Parker & Jane Pernade are my 6x Great Grandparents. I am descended from their daughter Sarah Parker born 1763 Deal. Sarah married Thomas Lever.

Seeing as the Kent family history society has her name as Pernade also it would seem that is the correct name entered in the Deal register. Is that entry incorrect though ?

Which daughter of James & Jane are you descended from ?

Hi Ravelin or I say cousin ;D

I am descended from Sarah's younger sister Ann who married Thomas MARLOW in 1786

I had hoped to find a will for James, which may have led to Jane's family, but he does not appear to have left one, his father's will was not very helpful as he simply left everything to his wife.

Hello cousin Jebber   ;D

I guessed right then. I thought you might be descended from Anne as i had found 7 children of her & Thomas Marlow.

I have only got as far as father James Parker myself. I know that a James Parker was baptized in Deal 27th Sep 1724 to parents James & Mary. Is this our James baptism ?

I am not sure about the above James being our one as i have found a couple of baptisms in Deal of Elizabeth Parker 1751 to parents James & Elizabeth and Harriot Parker 1773 to parents James & Ann. Was one of  these the James baptized in 1724 ?

I would be interested to know the main details of the will if you are sure it is our James father. Have you gone even further back in the line from this James ?

My Sarah Parker & husband Thomas Lever named two of their children with the middle names of Potter & Pollhill. I wonder if Jane Pernade was really Potter or Pollhill ?

Hi Cousin,

James 1724 is ours, his parents were James and Mary, surname unknown. They had six known children, James was the fourth. the others were John 1718, Sara 1720, Margaret 1722, Mary 1727 and Elizabeth 1729.

Our James had eight known children Martha 1755-1755, James 1756-1756, Sarah 1757-1762, Jane 1759, Sara 1763, Ann 1766-1809 and James 1776,

James senior was in the Navy, he died in service in Gosport, Hampshire in 1741. he left everything to his wife Mary,

Hello cousin

Thanks for all that info. Excellent.  :D

I shall add all the details to my tree now. :)

Just looked at the National Archives will index and found the will of James Parker 29th Oct 1741 Shipwright and Carpenter of his Majesty's Fireship Griffin of Deal, Kent. I guess this is our James then.
