Owen Richardson - Gt Bentley. Brightlingsea area
« on: Monday 28 February 11 18:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find out about my great uncle Owen Richardson's family. What i have to go on is from my family tree, ancestry records and what my dad can remember.

Owen Richardson b 1912 Tendring district (possibly Gt Bentley) BMD give him as Owen Denzil Richardson, mothers maiden name Jefferies. d 1980 Richmond, Greater London
marries Tendring district (possibly Brightlingsea)
Dora Lillian Martin b 1917 Brightlingsea. d 1978 Richmond, Greater London.

They lived in Tower Street, Brightlingsea before moving to Richmond. Owen worked as a joiner in a workshop that was later The Boat Centre, Waterside, Brightlingsea.

I have not been able to find any marriage for a Richardson and Jefferies in the Essex area, which is where i presume his parents were married.

Secondly
My father remembers often visiting his "Uncle Wilf and Auntie Winifred" Lord, in the early 50s who lived at Cedars Farm, Frating and knows they were related to Owen but unsure how, most probably a sibling of Owen however the uncle/auntie could be just a kids thing.
I have found a marriage for a Winifred Hope Richardson to Arthur M Lord(ancestry give H, findmypast give M) in Tendring, and a birth for Arthur Wilfred Lord in Tendring and his death in Braintree.
Because of the dates involved the 1911 census is not really any help. I know i could solve this by getting certificates, but as this is not a major limb in my tree i was wondering if i could do it without.

I have just found the marriage of Winifreds parents.

Joseph Edward Richardson - Lydia Sarah Jefferies. Brightlingsea 1892

Both born in Brightlingsea but can't find in 1911

Kevin

Update

I have found them in 1911 now, they are living in Great Bentley and have another daughter 'Mary Richardson b 1903 Gt Bentley'. If Owen was their son then it would mean a gap of 9 years between the last 2 births and his father at his birth would be in his 50s which seems odd.
It would seem that Joseph E Richardson was a teacher, later headmaster of a school in Ely, in between jobs he would work for the family business 'oyster merchants' and it looks that in 1893 he was mayor of Brightlingsea. He and his wife moved back to Brightlingsea where they died in 1924 and 1942 respectively.

I am now stuck!!!
