Locations in Yaxley,
« on: Wednesday 02 March 11 07:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am researching the 'Robinett' family in Yaxley and am hoping for more info regarding two locations/ houses.

1. On the census my family are listed at living in Water End. I have consulted ordnance survey maps but cannot locate this? Does anyone know where it may be?

2. Also listed is 'Streatham Cottages'. These are on Main Street opposite the Primary school. I am very much interested in the history of these. Who built them? who lived there etc?

Thankyou
Sadie

Hello Sadie,
Water End   approx Eastern End of Maim St
 Duck/Drake Pub is/was in Water-End,
to this day some locals call it Water-End, years ago
up to the 1950, the Old Course of the River Nene
ran in frount of the Duck/Drake, hence Water End.Margaret.

Hi Margaret

Thankyou for this information. It is interesting that the Old River Nene flowed that way. Do you have any other info regarding the village? are you local yourself? Regarding Streatham Cottages where did you obtain this info?

Thanks

Hi Margaret

How interesting that you are local. I live in Peterborough and my family that I am researching are 'Robinett' and 'Stratton'. Although local I know very little about the history of Yaxley.

My son has just purchased one of Stretham Cottages and we were interested in its history and whether he has any afmily connections to that area of Yaxley.

Where can you gain access to the voters information as that sounds really useful to track my family forward from the 1911 census?

Thankyou
Sadie

Hello Sadie,I  think you may have to go to Huntingdon Record Office, but you could also try Peterborough Central Library, refs section upstairs. good luck.Margaret.
