Hello,
I need help in the search to find the burial place of my 2nd great Grandfather Hezekiah Mann.
Hezekiah went to New Zealand in 1845 with the 58th Rutlandshire Regiment of foot, { The Black Cuffs, Steel Backs }
He was discharged in 1860 after being transfered to the 65th Regiment, The Royal Tigers.
Hezekiah purchased a Flax Lease of 60 acres listed in Return to free holders of New Zealand 1882.
Hezekiah married Isabella Baker in 1861.
Hezekiah and Isabella's first child my Great Grandmother Sarah Ann was born in 1862.
Hezekiah Mann died on the 7th of August 1883 separated from his wife Isabella
and was buried on his flax lease on the 8th of August 1883.
I had hoped to return to New Zealand before now to view the Historic Land Document at the Land office at the Oracle Tower in Auckland to find the location of the 60 acres so I can find and contact the present owner of the land to let them know that Hezekiah is there some where and one day travel back to New Zealand to see if it is possible to find Hezekiah's grave. I have recently learned that the Historic land records have been sent to the Auckland archives. I have a son with Cerebral palsy who is on a waiting list for surgery so I am unable to return to New Zealand any time soon, I am hoping to find some one who can help me with this search of the Historic land records. My mother is 79 years old and like me would dearly love to know where Hezekiah is. Hezekiah has been a forgotten member of my family for many years. I would like to be able to put a marker on or as close to his resting place as I can so the generations that follow will know exactly where Hezekiah Mann a part of New Zealand's early history is.
Regards
Maria
