John Charles Leach Completed
« on: Saturday 05 March 11 16:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I am looking for the above in the 1891/1901 census.  I believe in 1891 he will be with his father, Abraham Leach, not sure of wifes name.  By 1901, he had married my ancestor Mary Barnes, so she should be showing as Abrahams wife then.  They were living in the Swansea area.  John Charles was born in 1887

Many thanks

Hi Pauline,

Thanks for your reply.  My source is family(or what they can remember).  The only information I can find is that Abraham married Mary in 1896 in Neath.  Abraham was born in 1867, but I don't know where, and I believe he died in 1945 in Neath.  The story goes that Abraham and Mary were unable to have children together, so Mary adopted John Charles Leach.  I assumed that as his name was Leach that he must have been Abrahams by another marriage, but this may have been an incorrect assumption.
Mary also had a daughter Elizabeth, but this was before she married Abraham.

Hi Pauline,

Oh dear!  What a muddle.  I wonder if William was a brother of Abraham?  I haven't researched that far yet.

Hi Julie,

Have you sorted your muddle out yet?
To put a cat among the pigeons, * if the adoption story was correct on free bmd there is a birth in 1903 at Neath for a John Richard Helson, is he their adopted son?

Sandy
