James McLuckie
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 00:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me find James McLuckie. James was the son of William McLuckie and Janet Watson and was born in Kilmarnock, Ayreshire, Scotland in 1867. He appears on the 1871 and 1881 Census and then disappears. His brother William born 1869 emigrated to Chicago in 1890 and married Isabel Gillies in 1895 and I wonder if James also went with William and stayed in the US.

Any help in finding James would be much appreciated.

Pauline

Hello Pauline,

Not having much luck with your James I'm afraid.  I did see an entry for Duncan McLuckie aged 19 years travelling from Liverpool New York, intended destination was Chicago. Illinois arriving on 14 th Oct 1896 on the Majestic. Occupation Brass Finisher. (Maybe he is another brother visiting) A family tree entry also has a sister Mary in Seattle Washington. Naturalization docs for Mary and also appears on the 1930 Census but no sign of James.  Still looking.

Regards
Sandra

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c7k/ - in case it helps, this gives James' date of birth as 9 Nov. 1866

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c7j/ - this has William's death information.  Maybe if an obituary can be found for him, it might mention James?

You may have seen these entries for William and Isabella - Burials at Oak Woods Cemetery
Chicago Cook County Illinois.

Perhaps RAOGK could help with an Obituary.

I did find an obituary for William from the Southtown Economist paper of Chicago, but unfortunately there's no mention of siblings.  It says he was an internationally known breeder, exhibitor, and judge of Scottish collies, as well as a tool and die maker for Sherwin-Williams.  He was survived by his wife, two daughters, & one son.

Hi,

Thank you all so much for the information you have found for me. You have filled in some of the dates etc that I did not have. It was interesting to read that Duncan went to Chicago in 1896 obviously returned to Scotland as he married in 1897. There were eight children in this family and James is the only one I cannot find. Maybe he died and was never registered in Scotland. George born in 1874 was my husbands grandfather.

Thank you both so much for all this wonderful information you have found.

Regards
Pauline
