Baptism
« on: Friday 11 March 11 05:12 GMT (UK) »
G’day folks,

I have been searching for a record of baptism with out much luck, can anyone point me in the right direction…have searched thru the forum but can’t find what I need

Tried a few of the free search sites with no luck, looking at either Ancestry or Find my past just trying to get a good comparison between the two for my needs

Record I need is a Baptism from Sep 25th 1955 St Peters church in Blackley

Any comments good/bad all welcome

Cheers

OD,
For starters, I'm afraid we are unable to discuss him if he's still living ... do you know the names of his parents.

Welcome to Rootschat George,

Might have to talk via Private Messages George, seeing as you are alive!!!   ;)  :D :D   There are probably others, also alive, on whom this may impact!

See the little green scroll under the avatars on the left - click on there for the someone you want to talk to off line and you can PM.   In this instance, don't click me as I don't know!!  ::)      Unless you want to just get the hang of it - I can do that!!!   ;D

I recently acquired my own baptism - born 2 years before you  ;D

I Googled the church that I was married and baptised at and sent them an email. Or I suppose you could also try the Local Record office.

A baptism as recently as that isn't going to be anywhere online yet.

By the way they sent me the whole page and it was fascinating to find others that I was at school with-two of whom I am still in email contact with,to whom I forwarded the page.

Hi Carol,

That's a good idea - hadn't thought of that - might try it for myself also!!    I wonder if that record would pass for passport purposes? Don't suppose so.   :(

On the whole Wiggy ,baptisms don't show the date of birth, and of course could have been conducted at any age.I was 3 months old when mine was done..............ahhhhh  ;D

So no you couldn't use it as proof of age to get a passport!

Many baptismal records do actually list date of birth. I know passport regulations have changed in the last few years and more documention is needed but my cousin could not get a copy of her birth certificate and was able to use a baptismal certificate to get a passport (about 25 years ago).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
