John McAllister b 1921 Forth, Lanarks
« on: Saturday 12 March 11 11:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
Not been on the Scottish site before but looking for some help and advice.
I am researching my ex's family for my son as I want it to be a present for
his 40th birthday this year.
I need to know who the parents of John Brown McAllister b 1921 and I
think it was Forth, Lanarkshire although the family story goes that it
was Stirling, so dont know which is correct.  I think it was on the 6th March.
He passed away in Torquay, Devon in the year 2000.
He had a brother called James and a sister who was either called Marjorie or Margaret.
I just need a starter with his parents so I can try and research it back. If no one can help I will of course buy his birth certificate but just wondered if anyone knew if there were any records I could find this information from or
even people who have this man on their trees.
Thanks for any help
regards Sandymc

Hi, Sandymac
scotlandspeople.gov has John Brown Mcallister birth in 1921 Forth, and there is one entry for Marjorie, birth 1919 however,Birth records less than 100 years old, marriage records less than 75 years old and death records less than 50 years old are deemed to be modern day records and for these records it is necessary to order an extract, unless some kind Rootschatter is visiting the GRO and might PM you the info,
Good Luck

There are a couple of possible marriage records in Carstairs

1916 MCALLISTER WILLIAM and BROWN NELLIE at CARSTAIRS /LANARK

1912 MCALLISTER JAMES and BROWN ISABELLA THOMSO at CARSTAIRS /LANARK

If you have John's marriage or death record it may help identify his parents.

Hi there
Thank you Sancti  and a special thank you to Gilch who was kind
enough to go to Edinburgh to research this for me.
It was James and Isabella and that gives me the step I needed
to go backwards in time and find out the rest of the family.
I do appreciate the help and hope to come on in a few months
time and let everyone know how far I have gone on my sons birthday
present.
Thanks again and if you need any Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire info
let me know
regards
Sandymc xx

Hi again

Just to let you know that I did manage to go back in time and James and Isabella were the parents I needed to know.
Its been great finding out more about the McAllister for my son.
I do thank everyone for their help. Must admit it is a little harder finding
Scottish information as I find it easier looking for the English info I need.
regards

Now that you are that far back it is easy to search view and print images of actual records from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

You can go back to 1855 for births marriages and deaths.
