Burnside- Birse or Strachan?
« on: Saturday 12 March 11 16:08 GMT (UK) »
Greetings from a beginner.  I am searching out my mother's family and I find that they remained in Kincardineshire from around 1750 - 1850.  Their name is Sim.  Records seem to show that they were at Burnside, but they are registered in Strachan and Birse.  I know that some of the family crofted at Kinminity (or Kinmunity), which is near Burnside, Birse, But others seem to be at Burnside Strachan.  Can someone help here?  Is there a Burnside at both places, or did the parish boundary shift from time to time?

Thank you for any help/advice/opinion.

welcome to rootschat  :)

looking at the 1841 census(freeCEN) there is a sim family living at burnside
strachan kincardineshire
all the children showing as born kincardineshire
at least 5 of the children appear to be on the IGI as born strachan kincardine

there is another burnside on the 1841 census in birse aberdeenshire but i
can't see any connection to the sim family

the same family are still at burnside in 1851 all showing as born strachan
kincardineshire except the wife who was born birse aberdeenshire

since both heads of household are george sim(50 or 55) at the places you
mention i'm not sure how they are related

can't be sure how accurate those trees are  :-\

Thank you for your guidance here.

I have been trying to unscramble these two George Sims. It didn't help when they named their children similarly.

I see now that I have been on the wrong path by looking at the Birse Sims.  Now- I need to find a Burnside in Strachan.

Thank you again.
