Kinlet Workhouse
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 07:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have an ancestor who's abode is given as the Poorhouse / Workhouse on her children's transcribed Christening records between 1828 - 1836. All of her children were christened at St John the Baptist in Kinlet. I've not been able to find any info of a workhouse in Kinlet and wondered if anyone could help? Or suggest where I should look. Surname - Welsbury.

Karen

Hi Karen

Most likely is Cleobury Mortimer - search for Kinlet on http://www.workhouses.org.uk/

BTW are you aware of this family of Welsbury's in 1841 at Kinlet:

John age 60
Hannah age 50
Eleanor age 25
Sarah age 15

Thanks Paul.

I'll have a look at that website later.

I do have those details. It was Eleanor that was seemingly living in the poorhouse. She had 3 girls; none had a father listed on their Christening record and in each case Eleanor's abode was given as the poorhouse. Sadly two of the girls died in infancy, again their abode was listed as the poorhouse.

Very sad.

Thanks again. Will post any info I find.

Karen
