Question On Marriage/Death Please! COMPLETE
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 09:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi There, :)

I know my 2xgrandmother Gertrude Flanagan nee Tiffin remarried in 1898 in Belfast to John Forsythe, stating she's a widow to my 2xgrandfather John Michael Flanagan.

Gertrude at the time had two children born 1884 and 1886, when she became a widow.

Question is how long roughly after a death, does someone remarry. :-\

I'm actually trying to find the death of John Michael Flanagan. :-\

Any suggestions are welcome.

Kind Regards
     Gary ;)

It is very much up to the individual and their circumstances! You are best to start looking right from the time of the birth of the last known child.

Graham.

There's really no set answer to your first question. Widows and widowers often remarried quite quickly, especially when there was a young family to be looked after and supported.

Have you searched the civil registration index for John Michael Flanagan's death?

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi GR2 and aghadowey, :D

Thanks so much on answering my message.

aghadowey thanks for the link on the familysearch site, i couldn't find a death that fits in.

It had my John Michael Flanagan marriage in 1883 in Waterford, Ireland, i've got the certificate, for a good guess John was born sometime in the 1850's.

I'm thinking they might have missed the Michael out on his death, i would like to find his death, so i could order the certificate.

Any suggestions on finding his death would be a BIG BONUS. ;D

Kind Regards

Hi aghadowey,

I had a bit of luck on my Flanagans, i found a third child born 1893 in Belfast, but some reason stating (lying in hospital) and now i'm looking for a John Flanagan death between 1893 to 1898.

John Michael Flanagan b. ?  d. before 1898
MARRIAGE: 1883 Waterford
Gertrude Anne Tiffin b. c1863 Waterford  d.?
   "   "
   "   "
Jessie Lowry Vigurs Flanagan b.1884 Belfast
William Frederick Flanagan b.1886 Waterford
George Barrett Flanagan b.1893 Belfast  d.1893 (3 months)

I see George has a middle name Barrett, it looks like he's been named after someone, though i've never come across that name in my linage, more investigating i think.

I did find a will in 1894 in Belfast on John Flanagan, but this one left everything to his wife Mary and daughter also Mary, so i can scratch this one off the list.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Kind Regards
