The date of birth given on her death reg looks to be out by a year. According to the death reg, it's 29/7/1893 but the birth is a year earlier

Quite an age difference between the spouses, if the age for James is correct. There's no middle initial for him on his marriage and the only James Brown death registration in 1939 in Newport is for a younger man

Have you tried looking for them on the 1911 census? Using the free search on
http://www.1911census.co.uk/there's a James Brown with a Maude in the same household in the Newport registration district & his age matches the one who died in 1939, not the one who died in 1938.
Think you need the marriage cert from 1909 for the occupation of James's father as there are several James born around the time with father Thomas living in London. Names of witnesses may help as well.
