Burridge children

Isabella Denton m James Burridge in Sep. 1862  Marston [Free Reg]

I am having difficulty sorting this family out [now there's a change !! ]

IGI  shows only 2 births after that date  --Mary Matilda  bap.May 1863 and Albert Ernest bap. 1865.

1871 census  shows the family with  3 children--Albert  b 1866--Eli   b 1869 --Minnie b 1871.  No Mary Matilda.

I cannot find a death for Mary Matilda nor can i find births for Eli & Minnie. The census shows both children as born Bedfordshire.

Can anyone see if they can find from parish records a death for Mary Matilda and births for Eli & Minnie please.

Isabella Denton was born/bap 1845 in MARSTON to James Denton and Mary nee Copperwheat

Following her after marriage through the census has been 'dodgy'   census sheets offer another Isabella Burridge But this one was b Goldington Beds. In 1879 MY Isabella marries for a 2nd time to Alfred Harcourt- [or so i believe ] born Ross Herefordshire --Isabella's  age/date of birth  varies so wildly in each sheet that i hope i am following the right Isabella and could do with some 2nd opinions.

I have the 2nd marriage date as 1879 Sheffield Yorkshire but for the life of me i cant remember were THAT came from , nor can i re- find it 
The 1881 census shows an Isabella & Alfred Harcourt with Eli & Albert Burridge all living in Yorkshire.

Am out of Ancestry temporarily and only have access to FTM for my census at the moment.

Hope this doesn't all seem too garbled--that's how Isabella and her 2 husbands and children are getting to me

The family were in the Ampthill RD in 1871 - have you already discounted the 1864 death for Matilda Burridge in Ampthill

Her birth was registered in Ampthill in 1863 and there is no other Matilda Burridge showing on the 1861 census

Both Eli and Minnie's births are on freebmd - correctly spelt - 1868 and 1871 respectively.

Thanks for replying Carole, no i hadn't discounted it out of hand but i wasn't entirely happy with the fact that the first name Mary wasn't included and there was no age down for her.

Eli And Minnie's births --thank you --must have looked everywhere but the obvious!.

I think if Isabella's birth year didn't vary so extremely between 1849/1834/1850 bearing in mind her baptism on free reg shows 1845 i wouldn't feel so woried about accepting this Isabella Denton/Burridge/Harcourt as mine

No ages are given in the GRO death index until 1867, although the death certificate will give the age

But FreeReg also shows the burial of Matilda Burridge at Marston Moretaine on 2 Oct 1864 age 1 yr 5 mths.

Marston Moretaine seems to be very well covered on Free Reg - 1813-1900 for baptisms and burials and 1602-1900 for marriages. So there are two separate transcriptions of Marston Moretaine baptisms c1870, FreeReg and IGI, neither of which show baptisms for Eli and Minnie. I'm not sure what a search of the parish register would therefore turn up - certainly not births

I don’t think there’s any doubt that it’s the same Isabella, given the presence of Albert and Eli in 1881. Her 2nd husband was “only” 29 in 1881, when Isabella gives her age as 31. She wouldn’t have been the first to have knocked a few years off her age when she was older than her husband. She kept up the pretence in 1891, and even knocked off another year in 1901 when she was a widow!

The 1871 age of 37 is obviously an enumeration error, given that she was only 18 when she married in 1862

Have you got her 1879 marriage cert which will give her father’s name? If you have doubts that’s the only way you can be certain.

Thanks for replying bedfordshire boy--i'm probably being 'picky' with this family but sometimes you just feel the need to be at least 99% sure-- a couple of certs will be my next move. poli
