'Holmwood' Christchurch Road Bournemouth

Hello,  local knowledge or local access to records required.

In a document, I think dated around 1923, my unmarried grandmother's address is given as 'Holmwood' 18 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. Googling that address brings me a photo of a large office block - which of course is modern, but it does shows me that the address being a large site thus it is not a normal sized house, perhaps an institution was there.

I am guessing the date is 1923 but I am going by her age & other ages of her siblings at that time on the document, which shows next of kin info from their deceased brother's army records (he was killed 1916)

My mother born 1919 may well have been with gran at that address.

I'd like to know what 'Holmwood' was if at all possible.

I think there were quite large houses in that part of Christchurch Road, probably with large gardens.

If you look to the extreme right of this picture you can just see the type of houses in Christchurch Road at that time, number 18 is just out of view. The large building on the corner was the Metropole Hotel, a lot of people, mainly Canadian forces were killed when it was bombed in 1943..

Thanks nanny jan for the info in the PM, hadn't thought to look there, I'm assuming that those sort of properties may have been still there 12 years later. I had looked at a couple of Kelly's directories on-line but nothing turned up.
