Richard French, Loose/East Farleigh
« on: Thursday 17 March 11 09:37 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to Loose or Farleigh Parish Records?

I'm trying to find a baptism for Richard French.   From census info., I know he was born in East Farleigh and have him in 1841, 1851 and 1861 living in Loose.   Loose church MIs, have him 'Died 19.1.1865 aged 85 years', putting his birth circa 1740, and his wife, (Harriet - nee unknown) is also shown on Loose MIs died 20.9.1856 aged 75.

There are a number of other French's in the Loose MIs, and I'm wondering/hoping there's a connection between them, but without Richard's parents ........

If anyone could find Richard's parents (and perhaps sibilings) I would be so grateful.

I think there are gaps in the East Farleigh parish records.

The CKS has no baptism records between 1725 and 1812.  :-[

There is a Richard FRENCH marrying a Harriett MITCHELL at Maidstone 1804 which might be worth considering http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/index.php

I see, from the 1851 census, that Harriett was supposedly born Staplehurst.  There is a "Henrietta" MITCHELL baptised 1782 Staplehurst but no Harriett that I could see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~staplehurst/index.htm and http://www.familysearch.org  :-\

Ooooh!  Henrietta MITCHELL is one of mine.

Somewhere I've got a will. I'll see if it mentions Henrietta's married name.

The will of Richard BAILY (BAYLY) mentions his grandchildren

Charles, Mary, George, Richard, Michael & John MITCHELL
Richard, Sarah, Elizabeth & Milden BAILEY

To Sarah & Hariotta MITCHELL, his two grandchildren, he leaves "all and regular in my household stuff and furniture plate linen & china of what nature or kind soever the value may be or consist of"

So no married surname but Harriotta is a good mix of Henrietta & Harriett.

Brilliant ;D

See Staplehurst Monumental Inscriptions http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsStaplehurst/01.htm number 32 mentions Harriot dau of Charles ............... would this be the Harriot/Henrietta baptised in 1782 thus wife of Richard FRENCH then ???

It seems to fit.  :D

The occupants of graves 26 to 32 are all related.  I think all but one of the gravestones are still standing although badly worn.

The details of the marriage from the other thread:

In All Saints Maidstone
Richard French b otp age 25 m Harriet Mitchell sp otp age 22 27/8/1804 wit' Thomas Borer, Martha French!!

The witness Thomas BORER (who was a tailor) proves the link.  He married Sarah MITCHEL.
