The occupier in 1841 is John Embleton, a miller, and his family, with a Margaret Wilkin, as a separate "family", and Agnes Stewart with Elizabeth Stewart in a separate household in the Hall. HO107 Piece 825 Book 8 Folio 8 Page 10
Just to add that "Hall" does not necessarily mean a mansion etc. it could be just a large farm house.

I gave that link rather than finding it on http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm by entering the coordinates 434714, 569013 in to search, which, by the way, shows that the position of Preston Colliery is wrong on the DMM map   :)

Correction I was wrong. There were two Preston Collieries!, the one on the DMM map,  http://www.dmm-gallery.org.uk/maps/p007os1.htm,  is the earlier one and is shown on the 1856-65 map. The later one, which is west of Hawkey's Hall, is shown on the  1894-99 map, and http://www.dmm-gallery.org.uk/maps/p007os2.htm.

I'm not surprised about two Preston Collieries - just ask Michael how many Cowpen Collieries there were  ;D

None of those names on the '41 are connected so far as I know but I suppose they could have been friends.

He died of cholera (not surprising in 1832) and I had thought there might have been at least one other burial at Christ Church for the same address but nothing shows up in that year.  Rather than wade through any more BTs I'll check the PRs for 1834 next week - it's quicker by microfilm!
